Now researchers at the United Medical and Dental School at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital, London, have succeeded in promoting bone regrowth in the jaws of four patients who need implants because they are unable to wear dentures. The principle of guided bone-tissue regeneration was developed in the early 1980s but, according to Richard Palmer of the Department of Periodontology, this is the first time it has been proved to work in dental implant treatment. The technique involves preparing the site of the implant and covering it with a barrier membrane made from Gore- Tex, best known as a weather- proof clothing fabric.’The Gore-Tex cover acts like a tent, protecting the bone and preventing other cells such as connective tissue growing into the surgical site to compete with the bone cells,’ Dr Palmer says.’We have been able to verify that the regenerated tissue is bone. The problem is not so much that they are American – that is almost always the case – but that the well-known ones, such as Federal Express and Wal-Mart are too trite, while the lesser-known ones are so obscure that the reader cannot test the claims made on the companies’ behalf against their own experience. One brief piece of evidence, however, serves to demonstrate what the quality movement is all about and what can be achieved.Back in the early 1980s, Motorola – now internationally renowned for the quality of its products and management – was told by its Japanese customers that its paging systems did not reach the required standards. Wherever possible, he has shown us a succession of agonising shirts. If there is no further rise in factory output in June, the second-quarter increase will be 2 per cent, or more than 8 per cent a year. First, Liverpool lost Mark Walters, whose menacing of Terry Phelan on the other flank had three times threatened to put City behind. INTERNAZIONALE, Norwich’s midweek opposition, yesterday staged a pretty poor dress rehearsal for Carrow Road when they lost 1-0 at Genoa, one of Serie A’s more modest clubs, writes Henry Winter.

Next time, the Bank of England’s supervisors need to do more than wring their hands.. At a time of great difficulty and pain, when they might reasonably expect some privacy, they have gone some way to meet the demands of the media (and the public) for personal disclosure. In the US, 48 per cent of women in the 18-19 age group who voted supported Bill Clinton and only 33 per cent supported Mr Bush. He cannot pass the buck on to the manufacturer. However, a request for a refund for unwanted underwear or surplus socks will fall on deaf ears.

But still, life goes on – and in the house there were the rest of the pills: all over the place, hidden in the pile of the immaculate white carpet.I’d gathered them up and, to my shame, wondered what to do with them. The moon was always out on the water, and one night I said: ‘I wish I was a kite flying over the waves’ and he said: ‘Why not be a wave?’ I thought ‘Oh my God, this man is a poet.’In the movie, I was one of several women dressed as mermaids swimming around for the opening titles All the other mermaids were nuts for David. At the moment I have an obsession with Cadbury’s Caramel bars, so I might spit out the food and shout at it. TURKEY’S Prime Minister, Tansu Ciller, unveiled the country’s most radical reform and stabilisation package since 1980 yesterday, ordering the sale or closure of dozens of public companies, a wave of price increases, a freeze on wages and the effective devaluation of the currency by another 38 per cent. In an outspoken attack on Mr Major for promoting one of the anti-Maastricht ‘bastards’, Sir Edward also took the Prime Minister to task for not sacking another Euro-doubter, Michael Howard, the Home Secretary..
